US schools by Joe and John

Today, we interviewed Miss Carson, our American teacher, about the American school system:

1) What is the American system?
The American system is called “High School”. There are four classes in each high school. Normally, school begins at 7:30 in the morning and finishes at 3:00 in the afternoon.
2) How are the classes?
The classes are different in each school. Students take English, maths, science, history and have choices, to take electives like art, choir or technology.
3) What are the activities during school?
Sometimes, there are assemblies for sport called pep rallies. The activities happen after school but sometimes during lunch, there are special activities for students like voting for a prom king or a prom queen.

THE DRAMA CLUB

I’m Sarah and I’m going to describe the drama club. It is composed of ten students of Delambre High School. In the drama club, we learn different texts and plays. We have some funny exercises. Sometimes, we go out at night to see a play. So far, we have been working on two Italian skits (yes, Italian skits because my drama teacher is an Italian teacher, too). “Le café” by Carlo Goldoni and “Faut pas payer”. I prefer “Faut pas payer” because it is very funny. The story talks about a woman who shoplifts so under her coat, her belly is very big and her friend –her accomplice- lies, pretending she is is pregnant.

By Amandine and Karita

Jean-Baptiste Delambre High School is located to the North of Amiens. It is like a little city where there are two high schools – Jean-Baptiste Delambre and Montaigne. There are about 1000 students (700 for Delambre). There is a dorm, too.
Each year, there is a week with a special topic. Last year, it was the Spanish week, with special Spanish meals and games in Spanish. There are also la fête de la science and the media week.
We also have lots of activities and clubs. The options are drama, arts, sport and science.
Some travels and trips are organized. This year, the secondes will go to Wales. For the arts, last year, they went to Italy. Other trips are organized (to go to Spain, Greece, Oklahoma or Eastern Europe).
The language teachers have foreign assistants. In our class, we have an American teacher, too. Her name is Tiffany Carson. She has beautiful blue eyes and her favorite color is blue. She helps Mrs Claeys and Rosa, the Spanish assistant, helps Mrs Tabio.
Delambre offers many options and activities for the students. Finally, it is a very good school, despite the prejudices.
Delambre High School by Trinh and Latifa, our queen!
Jean-Baptiste Delambre High School is on Montaigne Street. It’s big. There is a gymnasium in front of the school. In this area, there are two high schools – Delambre and Montaigne. There are a big school yard for the breaks, a dorm for students, a canteen for eating and a big library for working on computers or with books. There are also lots of classrooms and big buildings. In their office, the supervisors sort out the registers, the absences and delays. There is an infirmary for sick people. We can relax in the students’ lounge with our friends during the breaks and we can also buy coffee and cookies. Mobile phones are forbidden like in every school.

The art club by Mohamed and Sophia.

My art option is the best class because we paint and we practice clay. The class is on Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 and on Wednesday during the lunch break. In class, we are seven students. The classroom is different from a regular classroom because it is decorated. It is long and we have a big table, a big file cabinet for art and we can access computers in class. We also have good marks if we work well. The teacher is the best because she is very cool!

Last year, I went to Germany with my class.
We spent one week near the lake of Constance (South of Germany) in a youth hostel. Each day, we made a short trip in the region, we climbed the mountain, we visited a museum of the sea, a park of tropical animals, a flower park, and we took a ferry to go to Switzerland, I bought a big beer glass for my father and a little beer glass for my mother. But we didn't have the time to visit a museum on the second World War 2.
Every day, we walked a lot and after the trip, everybody was very tired!

Caen beach

It's the story of one girl, Helène C. She is 342 years old, she is brown-haired, she has blue eyes, and she is an english teacher, she has the best class...THE 206. On monday, miss C. went to the Caen beach. The beach was very far, so she walked 3 miles, that was too difficult for her, because she wasn't very sporty, for example she had got nutella abds. Past 3 hours of walking, she arrived at a beach with surfers. She fell in poodle's poo. She was embarassed, and the surfers were laughing out loud. But she was a witch, she cast a spell on the surfers. And they were transformed in poodle's poo, they lived happily and they had a lot of children.
This story is based on reality.

I went to Greece in 2002, with my family to see this country. It's a beautiful country and very hot, the beach was the most splendid, the sea was so transparent that we saw the fish which were swimming around us.
Around us, we were very small compared to the Parthenon because it was enormous and magnificent.

During the holiday, I went to England, this country was magnificent because my host family welcomed me very nicely, they were cool and their house was welcoming. The food was very delicious and varied. During my visit in London I visited Big Ben, bukinggam Palace. I did some shopping on Oxford street. I went to the cinema, I saw films in English but I did't understand everything. Finally, it was very good, I loved it.

Our trip to Spain by Justine and Alissia

The Royal Palace

In 2004, five years ago, we went to Spain with our school. It was on May. We were with our school friends in Madrid. We visited Segovia, Toledo, and Sevilla. We went to the Real Madrid's stadium. It was a marvellous visit! We visited the royal palace and the visit was so bad... Unhappyly, it was raining and so cold. But it was a great trip. Moreover, Spain is our country of origin and we love Spanish boys! In Spain, people are so nice, so simple. Our host family was Argentinian and they hadn't got any children. They had got a Ferrari but the flat wasn't so good... Our Spain's trip is a good memory for us.
It was fabulous!

Jennifer and Si have been to England

We are back from Cambridge, England. It was an educational trip during which we visited some museums on the first day.
On the second day, we visited the new gardens of Cambridge where we had a picnic.
On the third day, we visited the zoo and we saw bears, tigers, reptiles, dolphins, elephants and we saw a mummy kangaroo who gave birth to a baby. It was wonderful and very moving.
During the trip we slept at a host family's and it was very nice, they were very kind. We will always remember them because we are friends now.
On the last day we said goodbye to our host family and we were very sad.

St Patrick's Day

Tuesday March 17th 2009 is St Patrick’s Day. On this day, people celebrate with parades, wearing of the green, and drinking beer. So what is St Patricks day, apart from a good excuse to drink Guinness or Paddys Whisky and look at pictures of Leprechauns and Shamrocks?
The person who was to become St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was born in Wales about AD 385 and his name was Maewyn ( pronounced May –Win ) and he was not a saint, until he was 16, he considered himself a pagan. At that age, he was sold into slavery by a group of Irish marauders that raided his village.

He escaped from slavery after six years and went to Gaul where he studied in the monastery under St. Germain, bishop of Auxerre for twelve years. During his training he became aware that his calling was to convert the pagans to Christianity and he returned to Ireland to do this.
For 30 years he travelled throughout the country, establishing monasteries across the country. He also set up schools and churches which would aid him in his conversion of the Irish country to Christianity. He died on March 17 in AD 461. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since.

Much Irish folklore surrounds St. Patrick's Day he is claimed to have given a sermon from a hilltop that drove all the snakes from Ireland. Of course, no snakes were ever native to Ireland, and some people think this is probably a metaphor for the conversion of the pagans.

One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. And this stems from a more believable Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day.

One reason St. Patrick's Day might have become so popular is that it takes place just a few days before the first day of spring and this was a traditional holiday for the Pagan Irish. St Patrick often incorporated elements of pagan festivals into his lessons about Christianity and it has been suggested that he originated the Celtic cross by melding the Christian Cross with the pagan symbol of the sun.

Of course the holiday is celebrated with lots of beer drinking, Guiness is famous for a reason!. The Irish are very famous for their toasts and so I will leave you with one of them.

Here's to your coffin...May it be built of 100 year old oaks which I will plant tomorrow.

Happy St Patrick’s Day

Sorry I had to!

What I did on my holidays

What I did on my holidays
Hello all of you, I hope you all had a good holiday. I spent some of the first week of my holidays at your school giving some extra English conversation lessons to those who wanted to come. I was there in the mornings from Wednesday until the Friday, from 9.30am until 12.30pm.
The students and I had a great laugh. We talked about everything schoolwork, music, films, parties, girlfriends and boyfriends and even politics and racism. The low point was telling each other some really bad jokes.
It was strange being in an empty school, the corridors were deserted and when we were walking about our footsteps echoed back to us. We were walking about in the school because we wanted to make a few videos about the school. This let us find some places we hadn’t visited in the school before such as the new Art Plastic classroom. Looking at the art in there I realised there are some very talented people at Delambre.
I have posted some videos we made, I hope that your return to school wasn’t too bad.
Have fun
Andrew

MATHILDE ABOUT A WEIRD PRINCESS

Once upon a time, there was a lovely princess, who had an ugly face and she was stinking. She was consequently beautifully horrible. She was captured by a witch who was jealous of the princess's perfume. She was a prisonner in the tallest cave of the tallest mountain. The prince, who was brave, nice, good-looking, intelligent or almost intelligent and who was as muscular as a twig, He wanted to liberate the princess. He went to the mountain with a noble charger, which was a... a lama. When they arrived at the cave, the prince saw a girl, who was scratching her ass. He went up ans asked:
" Where is the princess?
- I'm the princess.
- Is it true? Then why have you big ears?
- All the better to hear you with, my nice prince.
- Why have you big lips?
- All the better to kiss you with. Do you want to try?
- Oh my God, no I don't!! "
Suddenly, the witch appeared and the prince was attracted by her. He fell in love. He kneeled down and asked her to become his wife. The witch accepted, and they lived happily and had many children.
And the princess wasn't alone because the lama was there!

THE CARROT AND THE RABBIT by Maxime

Once upon a time there was a small rabbit. He had lovely eyes and he was cute and fluffy. One day, he was in his garden and found a carrot which was alive.

“Hello carrot!” he said.

“Hello, rabbit”, the carrot said. ‘You are horrible! And you smell bad in your mouth!”

So, the small rabbit killed the carrot and ate it.

The moral: “ Apparences are deceptive !! “
